World Austism Awareness Week

Light It Up Blue For Autism

This week is World Autism Awareness Week, the international campaign to increase knowledge of all aspects of the spectrum condition that affects around 1 in every 100 people (over 700,000) in the UK.

Our understanding of autism is growing all the time, as is our ability to identify where people fall on the spectrum and how best to help them to reach their potential. Autism can now be reliably diagnosed by 2 years old and the earlier the diagnosis, the better the chances of improved development and quality of life.

Everyone on the spectrum deserves the right to the best care and support to suit their specific needs and allow them to learn and develop as best they can. But to do this, the need for quality teachers and support workers is huge.

According to autism.org.uk, 70% of autistic adults feel that they don’t receive the support they need from social services. This is something we would love to change as Operations Director at Vetro Recruitment, Alastair Tulloch, has experienced firsthand the amazing impact a support worker has had on the life of his brother who has Asperger Syndrome.

Autism doesn’t discriminate between ethnicity, social economic background or religion, but living with the condition is different for everyone on the spectrum as, despite all sharing specific difficulties, there is a wide range of ways that people will be affected.

Vetro Recruitment has been sourcing the best possible candidates for employers in the health, social care and education sectors for 25 years and we understand the importance of supplying the best, compliant workers first time.

There are already great strides being made in caring for both adults and children with autism and there are some fantastic opportunities for those who are dedicated to helping those on the spectrum live with their condition.

If you want to make a difference to the lives of people with autism, we have lots of temporary and permanent work available. We are looking for the best candidates who are passionate about improving the lives of people with autism.

With the right help from the right people, people with autism can fulfil their potential and go on to lead fulfilling lives.

The title of this blog comes from the Light It Up Blue campaign, associated with Autism Speaks, that aims to highlight autism internationally by lighting up iconic landmarks around the world, including the Empire State Building, with blue light on 2nd April every year.
