Do you want to make a difference to the lives of children and young people? We are looking for passionate people to join our lovely team of Support Workers. You will have the chance to work on a flexible ad-hoc basis for a residential and leaving care service for young people between 11 and 18 years old. You will have the option to work across the Torfaen and RCT area. Some of these young people are in the transitional period out of children's services and preparing for independent or supported living services so you should be confident with lone working.
Not only will you be working in the most rewarding sector there is, but you'll also be in control of when you work and where you work. As well as supporting this client across the Torfaen and RCT area, you will have the chance to work at a variety of children's services across South Wales (Cardiff and the Vale, Blaenau Gwent, Newport and more). We support children's residential homes, transitional services and respite care for 9 - 21 year olds. We've got lots of other support worker jobs with these same clients. Why not take the opportunity to work with these homes on a flexible basis to see where your next permanent opportunity will be?
Our client in Torfaen and RCT have a large requirement for waking night cover, with a smaller amount of day shifts available. The hours within children's residential homes can vary so it is best to get in contact about what you are looking for in particular.
In an ideal world, you will have at least six months experience supporting children and young people with complex needs or emotional behavioural difficulties. On the other hand, we also love giving people the opportunity to experience a new sector who have supported other client groups within the Social Care sector but always wanted the chance to support young people!
Responsibilities as a Support Worker:
- To keep the homely, friendly culture and environment of the homes
- To be able to deal with challenging behaviours when needed
- Protect children and young people from risks to their health and welfare
- Provide support for the children and young people in the home and promote their independence and well-being
- To encourage the young people to do activities and take responsibility for their own lives depending on their age
- Maintain a safe environment for the young people
- Ensuring the safety of the young people and maintaining an up to date knowledge of the individual's care plan, guidelines, reward system and preferred method of communication
As a Children's Residential Support Worker, you will earn between £8.50 and £10.70 per hour dependent on qualification. You'll be paid on a weekly basis and have the choice of earning holiday pay straight away or accruing your holiday throughout the year.
