Vetro have a fantastic new opportunity for a Principal Psychologist at a modern and purpose-built hospital in Somerset which provides care to men and women with mental health conditions. Along with extensive benefits, the salary range for this position is £53,000 - £62,000, depending on experience.

About The Role:

The hospital is one of NHS England's pilot sites to test new approaches to delivering mental health care and works alongside local NHS trusts and private care providers in the South West.

Reporting directly to the Head of Psychology, you will be responsible for individual and group interventions, diagnostic and cognitive assessments, MDT working, risk assessments, facilitate staff reflective practice sessions and will be requested to design and deliver training.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for the systematic development and provision of psychology services at the hospital. You will support and develop a team of qualified and in-training Psychologists, providing supervision within a clinical environment.

As a Principle Psychologist, you will have experience and knowledge in carrying a service users caseload, including assessing service users with complex needs, and designing and delivering specialist psychological treatment within mental health care services.

Responsibilities:

Working within a highly specialised clinical area, to provide/supervise highly developed specialist psychological assessments of service users based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological (and neuropsychological) tests, self-report measures, rating scale direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the service users care.


To formulate plans, either directly or through supervision, for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a service users mental health/behavioural problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the service users problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.


To be responsible for implementing, overseeing and developing a range of highly specialist psychological interventions for individuals within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.


Directly, or through the provision of supervision, to make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.


To ensure clear systems are in place (and are followed) to process and manage new referrals/admissions. To allocate new cases promptly and ensure that they are being responsively managed in accordance with departmental and site-wide standards.


To support/supervise other departmental members in the assessment, formulation and case management of therapeutic work.


To develop and oversee (group work) programmes and innovative therapeutic approaches. To ensure that appropriate outcome measures are in place.


To ensure that Psychology practices in the specified area of service maintain the highest standards of professional practice and ethics, complying with clinical governance standards at all times.


To develop and support appropriate systems for the effective running of the Psychology service in line with clinical governance standards, professional standards and departmental procedures.


To support the clinical team and area of service in developing new initiatives and ways of working.
To work with internal and external agencies in order to enhance treatment pathways for service users.

Requirements:

Possess advanced levels of skills and competence in assessing, formulating and working therapeutically with service users in the service area.
Have a high-level ability to communicate effectively at both written and oral level complex and sensitive information, taking into account the recipients.
Have an up to date knowledge of legislation and its implications for the profession and the client groups we work with.
Be able to identify and proactive resolve problems and challenges within the service.
Be able to manage and supervise staff within the department, ensuring that they are meeting professional practice expectations and the BPS code of ethics.
Where a current UK driving licence is held, a copy will be required to be submitted and driving may constitute a part of your role.
You will maintain both HCPS and BPS registrations.
