Vetro have an amazing opportunity for a Speciality Doctor to join the team at a hospital in Warrington.

The hospital delivers high-quality clinical service to patients across four wards, comprising of 67 patients in total. Wards include medium secure (including 4 deaf patients), low secure, locked rehabilitation, and autism. The hospital will be moving to an all-male patient caseload, with almost all service users having a brain injury.

The salary will be £75000 and the hours will be 37.5 per week.

About The Role:

You will be one of two Specialty Doctors working across four wards (two each), with a Consultant (experienced in neuropsychiatry, learning disability, forensic, and Deafness) allocated as a dedicated supervisor to you. Some of the Consultants have active links with the University and local medical school for teaching, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists. You will have access to a half day of CPD on a Friday afternoon, will be supported for CESR, AC approval, Section 12 (2) status if required, and will have study leave throughout the year for your appraisal.

You will have opportunities for research and audit, and opportunities to feed into a regular monthly medics' meeting and to grow your CV.

On-call duties are required with opportunities for voluntary paid extra locum shifts. You will also have time off in lieu for on-calls worked, which can be taken any time of your choosing (as long as cover is in place). Lunches are provided free of charge daily.

There are great learning opportunities as you work with the multi-disciplinary team, which is comprised of the Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist, Nursing, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Workers, Forensic Psychotherapist, Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner, Physical Health Team and a visiting GP every week.

The hospital offers a neurorehabilitation pathway supporting patients to transfer from Medium Secure, Low Secure and locked neurorehabilitation unit with four rehabilitation flats. The clinical team have established good links with specialist ABI step-down placements in the North West and nationally to best support the transition to the community.

There is an active service user network at the hospital involved in service development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Ensuring an adequate handover to colleagues including out of hours.
Reviewing the mental state of patients as per the hospital procedure.
Ensuring that each patient has a full physical health screen upon admission including physical examination, ECG and bloods (the hospital has some phlebotomists).
Taking a lead with managing any physical health concerns that emerge during inpatient stay.
Seeking collateral history from other professionals and family.
Completing discharge letters and reports as required in a timely manner.
Depending on your experience, providing oral evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearings under the supervision of Consultant.
Contributing to the service development by participating in Clinical Governance activities by conducting audits, research and teaching.
Work effectively with colleagues to ensure that patients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times.
Providing prospective cover to other specialty doctors when they are on leave.


Full GMC registration
Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams
To be in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
To have had an appraisal/RITA within the last year
At least 3 years' experience in Psychiatry
Experience working as a doctor within brain injury/ learning disability/ deafness services (desirable)
MRCPsych (desirable)
Section 12 (2) approval (desirable)
