The opportunity:

Do you want to make a difference to the lives of adults with mental health needs? We are looking for passionate people to support our client who support adults with mental health needs. The client have projects in various areas around South Wales including the areas mentioned above. You will have the opportunity to work across all projects depending on the clients requirements and your availability.

Projects vary from 24-hour support schemes to low support schemes or step-down projects and will have different numbers of tenants, usually around four adults, both male and female. The needs of tenants will vary at each project, so you should be comfortable if tenants present with challenging behaviours.

Not only will you be working in the most rewarding sector there is, but you'll also be in control of when you work and where you work. As well as supporting this particular client, you will have the chance to work at a variety of care services across South Wales (Cardiff and the Vale, Torfaen, RCT, Blaenau Gwent, Newport and more). We support residential homes for adults with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health needs as well as children's residential homes, transitional services and respite care for 9 - 21 year olds. We've got lots of other Support Worker jobs with these same clients. Why not take the opportunity to work with these homes on a flexible basis to see where your next permanent opportunity will be?

Your experience:

In an ideal world, you will have at least six months experience supporting adults with mental health needs. On the other hand, we also love giving people the opportunity to experience a new sector who have supported other client groups within the Social Care sector but always wanted the chance to support adults with mental health needs.

Responsibilities as a Support Worker:

  • To keep the homely, friendly culture and environment of the projects
  • To be able to deal with challenging behaviours when needed
  • Protect tenants from risks to their health and welfare
  • Provide support for tenants in the home and promote their independence and well-being
  • To encourage tenants to do activities and take responsibility for their own lives and integrate themselves back into the community
  • Maintain a safe environment for tenants

The pay:

As a Support Worker, you will earn between £8.50 and £9.53 per hour. You'll be paid on a weekly basis and have the choice of earning holiday pay straight away or accruing your holiday throughout the year.
