The opportunity:

Do you want to make a difference to the lives of young people with autism? We are looking for passionate people to support 16 to 25 year olds with autism in a totally unique and sustainable setting on a flexible agency basis. Founded over thirty years ago in the beautiful Horsley Valley, our client has since grown to encompass two historical wool mills, acres of hillside woodlands, a farm, where students grow and sell biodynamic livestock and produce, and the world's only biodynamic fish farm. The setting's craft curriculum stems from the cultural history of the area, with such sessions as weaving and felting, green woodwork, animal husbandry, and metalwork in the Iron Age Forge.

Your experience:

In an ideal world, you will have at least six months experience supporting children and young people with complex needs or emotional behavioural difficulties. On the other hand, we also love giving people the opportunity to experience a new sector who have supported other client groups such as vulnerable adults or those with mental health needs but always wanted the chance to support young people!

Responsibilities as a Support Worker:

  • To keep the homely, friendly culture and environment of the homes and College
  • To be able to deal with challenging behaviours when needed
  • Protect young people from risks to their health and welfare
  • Provide support for the young people in the home and promote their independence and well-being
  • To encourage the young people to do activities and develop their skills
  • Maintain a safe environment for the young people
  • Ensuring the safety of the young people and maintaining an up to date knowledge of the individual's care plan, guidelines, reward system and preferred method of communication
