Our client is urgently seeking a support worker comfortable providing one to one support with an adult with learning and physical disabilities within his own home. This job is full time and based in Colden Common, Winchester. This job pays between £8.21 - £8.50 / hour and is initially offered on a contract basis, however for the right person my progress into a permanent role.

The role itself is caring for a gentleman who has no learning difficulties or mental health needs. His diagnosis is Multi-System Atrophy, Parkinson's and Postural Hypertension. So physical care is the main requirement. You must be comfortable undertaking personal care needs, assisting in all aspects of his daily physical needs and emotional well-being.

The working hours have some flexibility and are:

Daily: 8am - 2pm and 4pm - 9pm, there would always be another member of staff on duties also as these are double up visits that require two staff members.

You would not be expected to work every weekend but the hours are required over the weekend so some weekend work would be required. The hours are flexible and could suit someone wanting 8am-2pm shifts each day; someone wanting 4-9pm shifts each day or someone wanting a mixture of the two shifts on a regular basis, either part time as part of a job share, or combined as full time.

There are no sleep in duties required for this job.

Experience of physical disabilities is desirable. However; our client provides a superb comprehensive mandatory training programme to all staff which supports their knowledge and development of essential skills to do this job well.

Main duties include:

- Working as part of a small friendly team; with a gentleman in his own home. With one other staff member.

- Carrying out physical care and support, to include personal care, bathing and all aspects of care and hygiene needs.

- Providing emotional support.

- You will need strong communication skills for this role and to be a caring and compassionate individual.

- Delivering person- centred care and support

- Enabling those you care for to have greater independence and make their own personal choices.

Due to the physical and vulnerable nature of the people we serve and the need to support individuals safely this role can be both physically and emotionally demanding. However, we consider that the enormous rewards and satisfaction of supporting people to achieve their goals outweigh such demands.

Job Requirements:

- Your approach will be person-centred with the ability to calmly manage challenging situations.

- You will demonstrate empathy with others and adapt easily to change.

- You will be able to commit to the hours outlined above and work at least every other weekend.

- Experience within the sector is desirable but not essential - remember personal experience within this field is also valuable to the career path you are seeking.

- A Driving License is desirable but not essential. Comfortable with personal care duties

- You will be required to undertake manual handling and first aid training if you do not hold valid certificates.

- Able and willing to provide manual handling duties.

- You will demonstrate empathy with others and adapt easily to change.

- Experience within the sector is desirable but not essential - remember personal experience within this field is also valuable to the career path you are seeking.
