We are seeking a dedicated Children & Young People Domestic Abuse Support Worker to join a leading specialist provider in Caerphilly. This role offers a unique opportunity to work directly with school-age children and young people, raising awareness of domestic abuse, unhealthy relationships, and gender-based violence. As a Children & Young People Domestic Abuse Support Worker, you will deliver engaging awareness sessions, facilitate group work, and provide trauma-informed one-to-one support. Your work will take place across various settings, including schools, youth groups, and alternative education environments, ensuring you reach those who need support most. You will play a vital role in challenging harmful gender norms, promoting healthy relationships, and empowering young people to become advocates for change.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver impactful domestic abuse awareness sessions to children and young people in schools, youth groups, and alternative settings.
- Facilitate group activities to develop understanding of healthy relationships, gender stereotypes, and coping strategies.
- Provide trauma-informed, one-to-one support for young people disclosing or affected by domestic abuse, including risk assessments and safety planning.
- Collaborate with professionals and agencies to ensure targeted support for vulnerable children and young people.
- Support the development of “Youth VAWDASV Ambassadors” and assist in creating youth-friendly resources.
- Maintain professional standards regarding safeguarding, confidentiality, and equal opportunities.
- Participate in training, multi-agency meetings, and team development activities.
- Complete administrative tasks such as referrals, risk assessments, and record-keeping.
- Work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, and participate in on-call duties as required.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children and young people affected by or at risk of domestic abuse.
- Knowledge of adverse childhood experiences and their impact on youth.
- Understanding of VAWDASV and its societal effects.
- Ability to facilitate group work and manage challenging behaviours.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Full driving license and access to a vehicle.
- Commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality policies.
Desirable:
- Qualifications such as IDVA / ISVA / CHIDVA or experience as a group work facilitator.
- Welsh language skills.
- Experience liaising with multiple agencies and managing situations involving violence or aggression.
