Job Description:

A leading specialist provider is seeking a dedicated Children & Young People Domestic Abuse Support Worker to join their dynamic team in Caerphilly. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the safety and well-being of children and young people by tackling domestic abuse, unhealthy relationships, and gender-based violence head-on.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging domestic abuse awareness-raising sessions to children and young people across schools, youth groups, Pupil Referral Units, and other community settings.
- Educate on Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse, and Sexual Violence (VAWDASV), promoting healthy relationship values, consent, and respectful communication.
- Facilitate group work activities to help CYP understand the dynamics of healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, develop coping strategies, and build resilience.
- Provide trauma-informed, one-to-one support and risk assessments when abuse disclosures occur, creating personalised safety and support plans.
- Collaborate with multi-agency professionals to ensure young people receive targeted, appropriate support.
- Champion youth-led initiatives by identifying and supporting “Youth VAWDASV Ambassadors,” empowering CYP to promote respect, kindness, and peer support.
- Develop youth-friendly resources and facilitate forums that encourage young people to challenge harmful social norms and stereotypes.
- Maintain high professional standards aligned with safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring confidentiality and a safe environment for CYP.
- Contribute to team activities, attend training sessions, and participate in multi-agency meetings to stay informed and develop skills.
- Complete administrative tasks such as referrals, risk assessments, and accurate record-keeping.
- Provide flexible support, including occasional evenings, weekends, and participation in a rota for out-of-hours support services.
Your Experience & Skills:
- Experience working with children and young people affected by or at risk of domestic abuse, including emerging abusive behaviours.
- Knowledge of adverse childhood experiences and their impact on youth.
- Understanding of VAWDASV issues within families and communities.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and manage safeguarding procedures effectively.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and support CYP from diverse backgrounds.
- Skilled in facilitating group work, managing challenging behaviours, and working within educational or supported accommodation settings.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently, organise workload, and prioritise effectively under pressure.
- A full driving license and access to a vehicle are essential.
- Commitment to safeguarding policies, confidentiality, and GDPR.
Desirable:
- Qualifications or experience as an IDVA, ISVA, CHIDVA, or in related group work facilitation (e.g., Freedom Programme, STAR).
- Welsh language skills.
- Experience liaising with statutory, voluntary, and community agencies.
- Knowledge of managing situations that may lead to violence or aggression.
