Job Description
Support Worker roles are available in Barnstaple, Devon, supporting children and young people within a residential care setting. You’ll help create a safe, caring, and consistent home environment that promotes each young person’s wellbeing, independence, and development.Key Responsibilities
As a Support Worker based in Barnstaple, your daily duties will include:- Providing safe, consistent care and maintaining a well-ordered home environment in line with policies and procedures.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with young people, setting firm and fair boundaries, and supporting positive behaviour.
- Recording and reporting accidents, incidents, and concerns, and escalating safeguarding issues appropriately.
- Supporting healthcare needs, including arranging and attending appointments and completing written reports.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals (including families, carers, and social work teams) to deliver care plans.
- Organising and participating in activities, holidays, and day-to-day routines, including meal preparation and domestic tasks.
- Completing routine administration, maintaining young people’s files, and contributing to staff meetings and reviews.
- Participating in a rota including long/short days, weekends, Bank Holidays, and sleep-in duties (11pm–8am).
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Support Worker, you will need:- Experience supporting children and young people in a residential or similar care setting (or strong transferable experience).
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to promoting welfare, dignity, privacy, and choice.
- Willingness to complete mandatory checks, including an Enhanced DBS (or equivalent compliance requirement).
