Job Description
Children’s Residential Support Worker opportunities are available in Chard, Somerset, supporting children and young people in a safe, nurturing residential setting. You’ll help create stability, build confidence, and promote positive outcomes through consistent care, clear boundaries, and meaningful daily support.
This is a hands-on role for someone calm, compassionate, and committed to safeguarding and improving young lives.
Key Responsibilities
As a Children’s Residential Support Worker based in Chard, your daily duties will include:
- Safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people in residential care, following Ofsted standards and internal procedures.
- Providing practical day-to-day support (including cooking, cleaning, routines, and encouraging independence such as budgeting and shopping).
- Supporting education and appointments, including transporting young people to school, medical visits, and activities in and around Chard.
- Building trusted relationships, acting as a positive role model, and helping children manage emotional and behavioural challenges.
- Completing accurate records, incident reports, and paperwork, and liaising with managers, social workers, and other professionals.
- Working flexibly across a rota including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins (typically 1–2 per week).
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Children’s Residential Support Worker, you will need:
- A willingness to work towards a QCF Level 3 in Residential Childcare (fully funded).
- Experience supporting children/young people in a care, residential, education, or similar setting (desirable but not essential).
- Full UK Driving Licence (essential due to the home’s location).
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Successful completion of safer recruitment checks in line with Ofsted requirements.
