Job Description
A leading therapeutic residential care provider is seeking a Residential Childcare Worker to join their supportive team in Kingston St Mary, Somerset. This is a hands-on role focused on creating a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment where children and young people can build trust, develop confidence, and progress towards independence.
You will work within a trauma-informed setting, using a therapeutic approach grounded in PLACE (Playfulness, Love, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy).
Key Responsibilities
As a Residential Childcare Worker based in Kingston St Mary, your daily duties will include:
- Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, responding promptly to concerns and following safeguarding procedures
- Providing consistent, trauma-informed care, supporting routines, education, health needs, and positive daily experiences
- Building warm, boundaried relationships and using therapeutic communication to support emotional regulation during distress or crisis
- Contributing to care plans, keywork sessions, and risk assessments, helping children develop independence and life skills
- Maintaining accurate, objective records on relevant care systems and participating in handovers, debriefs, and reflective practice
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Residential Childcare Worker, you will need:
- Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete within 2 years)
- Experience supporting children and young people in a residential or similar care setting (desirable)
- Enhanced DBS clearance and safer recruitment compliance
- Full UK driving licence
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and sleep-ins as required
