Job Description

A leading children’s residential care provider is seeking a Residential Support Worker to join a supportive team in Exmouth, Devon. This role focuses on helping children feel safe, heard, and empowered, while delivering a bespoke package of care that supports positive outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

As a Residential Support Worker based in Exmouth, your daily duties will include:

  • Supporting children’s weekly routines and activities, ensuring they are safe, engaged, and involved in decisions where appropriate.
  • Following each child’s Placement Plan and promoting consistent attendance and engagement in education.
  • Maintaining accurate daily records and completing key admin tasks such as daily journals, handovers, medication documentation, and telephone enquiries.
  • Working in line with policies, procedures, and risk assessments, including responding appropriately to emergencies.
  • Providing a safe, warm, and supportive environment that meets children’s physical, emotional, educational, recreational, and social needs.
  • Promoting positive communication and using agreed communication strategies so every child has a voice.
  • Supporting children to build independence and life skills (including personal space and bedroom routines).
  • Managing challenging behaviour safely, following individual PBS plans, using de-escalation, and completing incident/accident documentation as required.
  • Supporting a clean, safe home environment and adhering to Health & Safety and fire safety procedures (including drills).
  • Participating in training, meetings, rota working (including sleep-ins and lone working), and raising concerns appropriately with management.

Requirements & Qualifications

To be successful as a Residential Support Worker, you will need:

  • Experience supporting children or young people in a residential or similar care setting (essential).
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to promoting children’s welfare (essential).
  • Willingness to complete all required training and follow policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards.
  • Flexibility to work a rolling rota, including sleep-in duties and lone working.
  • Ability to support transport needs when required.

Key Responsibilities

As a Residential Support Worker based in Exmouth, your daily duties will include:

  • Supporting children’s physical, emotional, psychological, educational, recreational, and social needs in a residential home setting in Exmouth.
  • Following each child’s Placement Plan, promoting education attendance, and helping structure weekly routines with the voice of the child at the centre.
  • Maintaining accurate daily records and completing key admin tasks (e.g., daily journals, handovers, medication records, incident/accident documentation).
  • Working in line with policies, procedures, risk assessments, and safeguarding expectations, including responding appropriately to emergencies.
  • Using agreed communication strategies and PBS plans, applying de-escalation, and intervening physically only when behaviour becomes dangerous and in line with guidance.
  • Supporting a positive home environment, including maintaining cleanliness of communal areas and promoting life skills (e.g., bedroom cleanliness).
  • Participating in training, meetings, rotas, and flexible working patterns, including sleep-in duties and lone working when required.

Requirements & Qualifications

To be successful as a Residential Support Worker, you will need:

  • Proven experience supporting children or young people in a residential or similarly structured care setting.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and the ability to follow care plans, risk assessments, and professional guidance.
  • Willingness to complete all required training and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Flexibility to work a rota, including sleep-ins and occasional lone working.
