Job Description
Residential Care Worker (Children’s Services) opportunities are available with a specialist children’s residential care provider in Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent. This role supports children and young people with Autism (ASD) and Emotional, Social and Behavioural Difficulties (ESBD), helping them feel safe, understood, and able to progress. You’ll join a team focused on consistent, therapeutic care and positive outcomes in Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent.
Key Responsibilities
As a Residential Care Worker (Children’s Services) based in Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent your daily duties will include:
- Providing day-to-day care and structured support to children and young people with ASD/ESBD, including during 24-hour shifts on a rolling rota
- Acting as a positive role model and using trauma-informed approaches to support emotional regulation and healthy development
- Completing key work, contributing to risk assessments, placement plans, and routine health and safety checks
- Supporting the Team Leader and feeding back to the Registered Manager to maintain high-quality care standards and positive inspection outcomes
- Managing challenging behaviour (physical and emotional) using therapeutic approaches such as PACE and attachment-informed practice
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Residential Care Worker (Children’s Services), you will need:
- QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) (essential)
- 6–18 months’ experience in a children’s residential care setting (preferred)
- Proven experience supporting young people with ESBD or Autism (required)
- Full UK Driving Licence (manual) (mandatory)
- Ability to work flexibly, including bank holidays, as part of a 24-hour shift rota
- IT literacy (e.g., Outlook, email, Word, Excel)
- Welsh speaking (highly desirable)
- Safer recruitment compliance, including DBS checks (DBS Update Service registration desirable)
