Job Title: Children’s Residential Support Worker
Location: Kingston St Mary (Taunton), Somerset, United Kingdom
Salary: £29,000 - £32,000 (sleep allowance included) + overtime available (DOE)
Job Description:
Are you a Children’s Residential Support Worker looking to make a real difference? Or considering a career change into children’s residential care? We are seeking a committed Children’s Residential Support Worker to join an independently led, family-run Children’s Residential Service in a stunning rural location just off the M5. This Children’s Residential Support Worker role is ideal for someone ready to support young people with complex needs and help create stability, consistency, and a therapeutic home environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support children and young people with complex needs, including attachment issues, abuse, neglect, psychological trauma, and emotional/behavioural difficulties
- Encourage young people to take responsibility for their own lives, based on age and ability
- Maintain a homely, friendly culture and safe environment within the home
- Manage challenging behaviours safely, sympathetically, and in line with care plans
- Protect children and young people from risks to their health and welfare
- Keep knowledge up to date of individual care plans, guidelines, reward systems, and preferred communication methods
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents, Social Workers, and other professionals (e.g., psychologists)
- Support independence and wellbeing through day-to-day care and structured activities
Requirements:
- Full driving licence (essential) and access to a car, as you may be required to transport children from time to time
- NVQ or QCF Level 3 in Children and Young People (desirable)
- Experience in a residential children’s home environment (preferred)
- Ability to deliver a holistic, integrated approach to care for young people with emotional and behavioural needs
- Commitment to safeguarding, consistency, and therapeutic support
