Job Description
Residential Care Mentor opportunities are available in Hailsham, East Sussex within a supportive residential children’s home setting. This role focuses on helping young people feel safe, secure, and able to thrive through consistent care, positive routines, and strong professional boundaries.
Key Responsibilities
As a Residential Care Mentor based in Hailsham, your daily duties will include:
- Creating and sustaining a positive, nurturing home environment that supports emotional security and personal growth.
- Building respectful relationships with young people, promoting socially acceptable behaviour, and providing guidance around personal and social development.
- Supporting safe supervision, responding appropriately to challenges, and communicating effectively to identify and resolve issues.
- Planning and engaging young people in constructive recreational and social activities.
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to care planning, reviews, and social/emotional reporting using designated systems.
- Supporting team effectiveness through attending staff meetings, completing training, and helping to induct new staff.
- Assisting with rotas and stepping up to cover senior responsibilities when required.
- Supporting practical needs including transport to school/activities (where required), maintaining tidy living spaces, and completing sleep-in shifts as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Residential Care Mentor, you will need:
- NVQ Level 3 in Childcare (or equivalent) – desirable (higher rate available for qualified staff).
- Experience supporting children/young people in a residential or similar care setting (preferred).
- A strong understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and professional boundaries.
- Willingness to complete sleep-in shifts and occasional additional duties as required.
- Ability to provide transport for young people when needed (driving may be required depending on shift needs).
