Job Description
Residential Support Worker opportunities are available in Sandford, Devon within a children’s residential setting supporting young people to feel safe, heard, and empowered. Based in Sandford, Devon, you’ll work as part of a dedicated team delivering individualised care packages that help children build confidence, life skills, and positive routines.
Key Responsibilities
As a Residential Support Worker based in Sandford, your daily duties will include:
- Supporting children’s weekly routines and activities, ensuring their views are central while maintaining safety and engagement.
- Following each child’s Placement Plan, promoting education attendance, and encouraging learning and development.
- Maintaining accurate daily records (e.g., journals, handovers, medication notes) and completing incident/accident documentation within agreed timescales.
- Creating a safe, warm, and supportive environment that meets children’s physical, emotional, psychological, educational, recreational, and social needs.
- Working in line with policies, procedures, risk assessments, and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans, using de-escalation and intervening appropriately when behaviour becomes unsafe.
- Supporting household standards, including cleanliness of communal areas, and helping children develop independence and life skills.
- Participating in rotas, including sleep-in duties and occasional lone working, and attending training/meetings as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Residential Support Worker, you will need:
- Experience supporting children or young people in a residential, care, or similar setting (desirable but not essential if you have strong transferable skills).
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to promoting children’s welfare.
- Willingness to complete mandatory training and follow policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Ability to work flexibly, including sleep-ins and rota-based shifts.
- Enhanced DBS check (required).
