Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Supported Living / Housing Support Worker to join a leading specialist provider in Aberdare. In this role, you will provide practical, emotional, and developmental support to young people aged 16–25 living in supported or transitional accommodation. The focus is on fostering independence, building life skills, and helping young people maintain safe, stable housing while working towards their personal, educational, and employment goals.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Supported Living / Housing Support Worker based in Aberdare, your daily duties will include:
- Supporting young people to maintain safe, clean, and stable accommodation
- Assisting with daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and grocery shopping
- Supporting tenancy responsibilities, including rent, property care, and neighbour relations
- Helping young people develop independent living skills
- Building positive, trusting relationships using a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach
- Supporting emotional well-being and social connection
- Encouraging participation in education, training, employment, and community activities
- Supporting young people in setting and working towards personal goals
- Working alongside case workers, youth workers, and external services
- Supporting young people to attend appointments (health, education, housing, legal)
- Contributing to support plans, progress notes, and incident reports
- Identifying risks and responding appropriately to challenging behaviours or crises
- Maintaining a safe environment and responding to incidents in line with organisational policies
- Promoting young people’s rights, choice, and self-determination
- Following safeguarding, child protection, and organisational procedures
- Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality
Requirements & Qualifications:
To be successful as a Supported Living / Housing Support Worker, you will need:
- A strong value base with an empathetic approach to supported housing environments
- Ideally, some experience within a similar social care setting
- Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively with young people
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting young people's rights
