Children’s Residential Deputy Manager

Location: Handsworth, Birmingham

Salary: £29,991 – £34,791 per annum + Sleep-in payments

Pattern: Shift-based with dedicated Admin/Office days

Are you an experienced Senior Support Worker ready for the next step, or a Deputy Manager looking for a better-structured role?

We are seeking a dedicated and ambitious Deputy Children’s Home Manager to join our team in Handsworth. This is a pivotal role where you will balance frontline care with the operational leadership required to drive an "Outstanding" service.

Unlike many Deputy roles that leave you "stuck on the floor," we provide 1–2 dedicated office admin days per week. This ensures you have the protected time to focus on audits, care planning, and staff mentorship without constant interruption.

The Role & Responsibilities

  • Operational Support: Work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home exceeds Ofsted regulations and Quality Standards.

  • Leadership: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Support Workers, modeling best practices in therapeutic care.

  • Balanced Rota: Engage in direct shift work with the young people while utilizing your weekly admin days for essential management tasks.

  • Safeguarding: Act as a lead for safeguarding, ensuring the well-being and protection of all residents.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive Salary: Up to £34,791 basic (dependent on experience).

  • Clear Structure: Protected admin time to ensure your professional development isn't sidelined by shift demands.

  • Career Progression: We are committed to internal growth—this is the perfect stepping stone toward your Level 5 and Registered Manager status.

  • Local Impact: Make a direct difference in the lives of young people within the Handsworth community.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is essential.

  • Experience: Proven experience at a Senior or Deputy level within a Children's Residential setting.

  • Driving: A Full UK Driving Licence is required for this role to support the needs of the young people.

  • Flexibility: Must be able to work a shift pattern that includes weekends and sleep-ins (additional payments apply).

Her support made a real difference, and we truly appreciated her efforts.

We were initially contacted directly by Kerry from Vetro regarding a potential Registered Home Manager she was working with. I spoke with Kerry to discuss the role, our requirements, and the candidate she had in mind.

Highly recommend Vetro...would never consider another agency and that is down to Kerry.

I have previously worked with Kerry, and after letting her know I was looking for work again, it took her less than 2 days to come back with what I asked for. Not only that, she made sure I was prepared for the interview and checked in before and after, she did go above and beyond like previous, with a personal touch.

Honestly, you've been amazing.

You don't just get the roles we need, you get me, how I work, what kind of personalities click with me, and who's going to fit in with our wider team. That makes such a difference, especially at senior level.

Kerry was very friendly and easy to talk too.

I found her approach was very confidential and she respected my privacy of when to contact me and when I wouldn't be available. I appreciated her honest and transparent approach when applying for jobs in giving recommendations, and felt she remained professional at all times.
