Job Description:
Vetro Recruitment is seeking compassionate and dedicated Children’s Residential Support Workers to join a CIW-approved, therapeutic children’s residential home in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a warm, homely environment where children are supported to feel safe, valued, and encouraged to develop at their own pace through play-based therapeutic approaches.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Children’s Residential Support Worker based in Merthyr Tydfil, your daily duties will include:

  • Providing high-quality, child-centred care and support within a residential setting
  • Building trusting and positive relationships with children and young people
  • Helping children to feel safe, listened to, respected, and valued
  • Supporting children to explore and understand their emotions using therapeutic and play-based approaches
  • Encouraging positive behaviour through consistency, boundaries, and nurturing support
  • Supporting children to develop emotional regulation and practical life skills
  • Assisting with education, hobbies, and individual interests
  • Planning and participating in fun, stimulating activities, including outdoor play and community-based experiences
  • Supporting children to access local community activities and develop confidence and self-esteem
  • Maintaining accurate records and working collaboratively with colleagues, families, social workers, and other professionals
  • Following individual care plans, safeguarding procedures, and organisational policies

Requirements & Qualifications:
To be successful as a Children’s Residential Support Worker in Merthyr Tydfil, you will need:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people (desirable but not essential)
  • A compassionate, resilient, and non-judgemental approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • The ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations
  • A willingness to engage in activities, play, and day-to-day support for children
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable
