Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home

Job Overview

We are seeking an ambitious and resilient Deputy Manager to join a therapeutic children's residential service. This is a crucial leadership role within a newly specified Ofsted-registered EBD children’s home.

The role is ideal for an experienced Deputy Manager or Senior Shift Leader ready to provide consistent leadership, drive high standards of care, and support the young people to achieve the best outcomes.

  • Annual Salary (Base): £35,000 per year

  • Contract: Permanent, full-time position.

  • Hours: 4 days a week, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm (48 working hours per week).

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Management Oversight: Assume day-to-day managerial oversight in the Registered Manager's absence, ensuring compliance with the Statement of Purpose and all managerial duties.

  • Team Leadership & Role Modelling: Provide effective leadership to the staff team, directing them in delivering person-centred care. Act as a positive role model and provide consistent support to the young people.

  • Quality & Compliance: Implement and adhere to the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Care Standards, and SCCIF Guidelines.

  • Safeguarding: Ensure full adherence to Safeguarding Policy and Local Authority procedures, promptly notifying all significant events, incidents, and interventions. Strong knowledge of safeguarding is essential.

  • Care Planning & Reporting: Oversee the development of young people's placement, and formulate/update placement plans, risk assessments, and positive handling plans. Excellent report-writing skills are required.

  • Liaison: Liaise professionally with social workers and other external agencies.

  • On-Call: Participate effectively in the shared on-call duty system, attending any emergencies when required.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year’s experience working as a Deputy Manager in an EBD children’s home.
     
  • Leadership: Proven ability to effectively lead staff teams and experience working as a senior member of staff within a children’s residential care setting.
  • Qualification: Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Residential Service or equivalent.

  • Driving: Must be a confident driver and hold a valid UK or international driving licence.

  • Communication: Must have a good standard of spoken and written English.

  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge and understanding of the Children's Homes Regulations, Child Protection & Safeguarding legislations, and behaviour management.

  • Qualities: Resilient, enthusiastic, motivated, calm, adaptable, and possessing excellent organisational skills.

 

Desirable Experience

  • Understanding and knowledge of a Therapeutic Approach to Childcare.

  • NVQ or Diploma Level 5 in Leadership & Management in Residential Children’s Services or equivalent.
