Deputy Manager – Children's Residential Home

Job Overview
We are seeking a highly competent and motivating Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in shaping and delivering the home’s Statement of Purpose. This is a key leadership position responsible for the safe and efficient management of the home, providing high-quality care, and acting as an advocate for the well-being of young people.

Schedule: Working hours to be agreed with the Registered Manager (includes office hours and shift work).
Key Responsibilities and Duties

Leadership & Role Modelling: Demonstrate effective leadership and staff co-ordination, serving as a role model of excellence for staff. Lead and manage a team of Residential Support Workers while on shift, taking full responsibility for managing the home in the absence of the Registered Manager.

Compliance & Quality: Assist the Registered Manager in ensuring the efficient operation of the service in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and the Statement of Purpose. Ensure all necessary documentation required by regulators is completed to a high standard.

Service Development: Support the implementation of a development plan that ensures the delivery of a high-quality, clinically informed practice. Achieve the highest standards of care which reflect individual care planning objectives.

Team Management: Be involved in the recruitment, induction, mentoring, and supervision of new employees. Contribute to the team training and development programme. Organise duty rotas to ensure young people's needs are always met.

Care Planning & Assessment: Assist and supervise the continual assessment of needs, identify specific development plans, and co-ordinate casework functions of the home.

Operational Duties: Ensure all professional practice and medication processes are conducted in line with legislation. Maintain a clean and safe environment, ensuring prompt handling of maintenance issues and compliance with Health and Safety at Work legislation.

Communication & Ethics: Ensure efficient channels of communication within the home. Promote professional ethics and behaviour at all times.

Financial Management: Ensure adherence to the company’s financial and administrative procedures and work within a set budget.

On-Call: Be part of an on-call system and work flexible hours to meet the changing needs of the home.
Essential Requirements

Qualifications: Possession of Diploma Level 3/4 in Children & Young People Workforce, or Diploma Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent. Willingness to undertake / working towards Diploma Level 5 Leadership & Management is required.

Experience: Significant experience of working in a residential setting with young people with challenging behaviour. Experience in supervising/managing staff.

Knowledge: Excellent knowledge of the care needs and care plans of specific young people and looked after children generally. Knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations, Children Act, Quality Standards, and risk management.

Leadership & Skills: Excellent communication skills, ability to manage time and IT effectively, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage teams effectively.

Attributes: Must be emotionally resilient and mature, possess good organisational skills, and have the ability to motivate and enthuse staff. Must be fit to manage the home in the absence of the Registered Manager.
Desirable Experience & Knowledge

Possession of a Diploma Level 5 in Management / NVQ Level 5 Management.

Experience of Ofsted inspections and professional's meetings.

Understanding of attachment and trauma in relation to young people.

Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and Human Resources practices.
