Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to join a leading specialist provider of children’s residential care services in Reading. The Deputy Manager will play a vital role in shaping and delivering high-quality care for children and young people, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for making a positive impact in children’s lives. The Deputy Manager will oversee daily operations, support staff, and work closely with the Registered Manager to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Registered Manager in ensuring the efficient operation of the home in accordance with legislation, policies, and the Statement of Purpose.
- Lead and supervise a team of Residential Support Workers, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance management.
- Promote safeguarding and ensure the welfare of children and young people is always prioritised.
- Support the implementation of development plans to deliver high standards of care aligned with individual care plans.
- Coordinate casework, monitor performance, and evaluate service delivery.
- Participate in recruitment, induction, and ongoing training of staff to ensure a skilled and motivated team.
- Foster positive relationships with children, families, and external professionals, including multi-disciplinary teams and authorities.
- Chair meetings, reviews, and discussions as directed by the Registered Manager.
- Organise duty rotas to meet the needs of the children and ensure continuous service delivery.
- Maintain accurate documentation for inspections and audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Promote a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment within the home.
- Support the on-call system and work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service.
Requirements:
- Diploma Level 4 in Children and Young People Family Practitioner or Level 3 Residential Child Care.
- Proven experience working in a children’s residential setting, preferably with challenging behaviour.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, Ofsted standards, and relevant legislation (Children Act, Children’s Homes Regulations).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Emotional resilience and maturity.
- IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
