Job Description
A Children’s Home Deputy Manager opportunity is available with our client in Blunsdon, Swindon, Wiltshire. You’ll support the Registered Manager to lead a 5-bed residential children’s home delivering trauma-informed, therapeutic care for young people with learning difficulties and emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Key Responsibilities
As a Children’s Home Deputy Manager based in Blunsdon, Swindon, your daily duties will include:
- Supporting the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring children and staff are safeguarded, supervised, and supported.
- Helping the service meet and exceed Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and relevant legislation.
- Leading, mentoring, and developing the staff team through supervision, reflective practice, and role modelling therapeutic approaches.
- Building effective partnerships with young people, families, and external professionals, keeping relationships central to practice.
- Overseeing accurate, high-quality documentation including Care Plans, Risk Assessments, and Behaviour Support Plans.
- Supporting operational compliance across health & safety, medication, premises, vehicles, and basic budget/administration processes.
- Contributing to a culture of staff wellbeing and trauma-informed ways of working, including awareness of vicarious trauma.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Children’s Home Deputy Manager, you will need:
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (essential).
- Minimum 1 year’s experience in Residential Children’s Social Care (ideally as a Senior Support Worker).
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care (therapeutic background preferred; willingness to learn welcomed).
- Knowledge of PACE and what good therapeutic placements look like (advantageous).
- Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
- Enhanced DBS (clear) and positive references covering relevant work with children/vulnerable adults.
- Confidence with boundaries, mentoring, and managing challenging situations in a nurturing, non-consequential way.
