Job Description
A leading residential childcare provider is recruiting a Deputy Children’s Home Manager to join a therapeutic children’s home in Whitechapel, London. This service supports young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), offering structured leadership, clear expectations, and a supportive working environment.
Key Responsibilities
As a Deputy Children’s Home Manager based in Whitechapel, your daily duties will include:
- Leading shift management and rota planning, with a balanced schedule of 2 office days and 3 on-shift days in Whitechapel, London
- Deputising for the Registered Manager, taking operational responsibility for the home and staff team when required
- Coaching and supporting residential support workers to deliver consistent, trauma-informed care across all shifts
- Participating in the management on-call rota (approximately once every 5–6 weeks)
- Supporting compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Ofsted Quality Standards
- Overseeing care planning, including individual care plans, positive behaviour support plans, and risk assessments
- Completing key operational administration (audits, occupancy/referrals, and service documentation)
- Championing safeguarding, ensuring immediate action and accurate reporting of any concerns
- Building strong relationships with local authorities, social workers, families, and education professionals
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Deputy Children’s Home Manager, you will need:
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Commitment to working towards the Level 5 Diploma (if not already held)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential setting, including 1 year in a senior/supervisory role
- Experience supporting young people with EBD and challenging behaviour
- Strong understanding of Ofsted frameworks and safeguarding procedures
- Full UK driving licence (highly preferred)
- Confident communication skills for multi-agency meetings and regulatory reporting
