Job Description
Deputy Manager (Children’s Home) required for a well-established children’s residential care provider in Reading, Berkshire. This is an in-person leadership role supporting a nurturing, safe, and structured home environment where children and young people can thrive.
You’ll work closely with the Registered Manager to maintain high standards of care, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
As a Deputy Manager (Children’s Home) based in Reading, your daily duties will include:
- Supporting the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of an Ofsted-regulated children’s home, including readiness for inspections
- Leading, supervising, and developing staff through regular supervisions, appraisals, briefings, and training
- Ensuring robust safeguarding practice, accurate recording, and timely reporting of concerns in line with legislation and local procedures
- Overseeing referrals, admissions, care planning, and personalised target setting with clear reporting to local authorities
- Managing on-call processes, multi-agency engagement (including LAC reviews and PEPs), and promoting a safe, engaging home environment in Reading
- Maintaining strong health & safety arrangements, risk assessments, and Positive Behaviour Support planning
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Deputy Manager (Children’s Home), you will need:
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an Ofsted-regulated residential children’s home (with evidence of supporting Good or Outstanding outcomes)
- Proven experience supervising staff and supporting performance management processes
- Enhanced DBS check (required for appointment)
- Full UK driving licence (or valid equivalent, convertible to UK licence) and ability to evidence appropriate vehicle insurance for work use
