Deputy Manager | Residential Children's Home | Burton on Trent

As Deputy Manager, you'll play a vital role in providing effective leadership and ensuring the safe and efficient management of our clients home. You'll lead and manage a team of residential workers on shift, taking full responsibility for the establishment, its resources, and the welfare of their children and young people in the absence of the Homes Manager.


What You'll Be Doing:

  • Providing Effective Leadership: Leading by example, fostering a positive atmosphere, and representing the home to external bodies.
  • Maintaining Occupancy: Working with the manager to continuously improve services and ensure the home remains a preferred choice for young people.
  • Managing Services: Ensuring high-quality care, consistent with individual assessments and national standards.
  • Resource Management: Overseeing equipment, premises, supplies, and finances to ensure efficient operation.
  • People Management: Supporting staff development, monitoring recruitment, and fostering a supportive team environment.
  • Information Management: Ensuring effective communication, accurate records, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Energy Management: Identifying and implementing improvements for energy efficiency.
  • Quality Assurance: Promoting continuous improvement and upholding high standards of care.

What We're Looking For:

Qualifications:

  • A qualification at least to QCF Level 5 (or equivalent, or working towards) in the area of care you will be responsible for.
  • A management qualification at least at or equivalent to NVQ Level 4.

Experience:

  • At least one year's experience of working with children.
  • At least one year's experience of working at a senior level in a residential setting.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Demonstrable commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • High standard of general intelligence.
  • Sound knowledge of legislation relating to Health and Safety, Employment, and Food Hygiene.
  • Good insight into the care of children/young persons.
  • Excellent communication skills (literate and numerate).
  • Desirable: Knowledge of legislation specifically relating to Care Homes (regulations and standards), including registration and inspection procedures.
  • Desirable: Specialist knowledge of care of children.
