This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience within a specialist setting, working as part of a highly skilled, multidisciplinary therapy team. Based in Cranleigh, Surrey, the Graduate Therapy Assistant role offers a unique pathway to develop your skills and knowledge before pursuing postgraduate or vocational therapy qualifications.
At our client’s setting, you will work directly in the classroom alongside education staff and therapists, actively supporting and delivering therapeutic interventions. This embedded therapies approach ensures you gain meaningful experience that will strengthen your future applications for therapy training programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support individual and group therapeutic activities under the guidance of qualified therapists and teaching staff
- Work within classroom environments to assist therapists and teachers in supporting students with complex learning disabilities, autism, and communication needs
- Help students develop communication skills, including the use of AAC tools such as iPads, Makaton, and visual supports
- Contribute to creating a consistent, supportive, and structured learning environment
- Engage creatively and patiently with students, some of whom are non-verbal, requiring adaptable communication approaches
Requirements:
- Final-year students or recent graduates in Psychology, Health & Social Care, Education, or related fields
- Motivated individuals aiming to pursue careers in Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, or similar disciplines
- No prior therapy experience is necessary, as full training will be provided
- Strong resilience, empathy, patience, and a proactive attitude
- Ability to work effectively within a team and adapt to a dynamic environment
Working Pattern:
- 36 hours per week during term time
- Monday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
- Tuesday – Thursday: 8:30am – 4:15pm
- Friday: 8:30am – 3:45pm
- Plus 30 minutes worked flexibly
