Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – SEN and Literacy Support

Are you passionate about working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you have experience supporting students with Literacy and English? A leading specialist provider is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team in Wirral. This full-time, long-term role offers an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact on students’ educational journeys, starting from September and continuing throughout the academic year.
As a HLTA working within an alternative provision setting, you will play a vital role in supporting children with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs. Your focus will be on assisting students with English and Literacy, particularly phonics, while helping them manage behavioural challenges. You will collaborate closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals to develop and implement effective behaviour management strategies and tailored support plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with English and Literacy, focusing on phonics and reading skills
- Assist in managing behavioural challenges and promoting positive behaviour
- Work closely with teachers and SENCO to develop individualised support strategies
- Support the delivery of interventions and personalised learning plans
- Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment
- Contribute to the overall wellbeing and development of students with SEMH needs
Requirements:
- HLTA training or equivalent qualification
- Experience (paid or voluntary) working with children or in the care sector
- Previous experience within an SEN and SEMH setting is desirable
- Strong understanding of special educational needs and behaviour management
- Proactive, patient, and understanding attitude
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Willingness to undertake training and professional development
