Job Description:
The Home Manager (Specialist Children’s Residential) role in Whitechapel, Greater London offers the opportunity to lead a specialist children’s residential home supporting young people with complex needs. Working closely with a multi-disciplinary leadership team, you’ll create a nurturing, safe environment where young people are treated with dignity and supported towards greater independence.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Home Manager (Specialist Children’s Residential) based in Whitechapel, your daily duties will include:
- Leading day-to-day service delivery, including quality of care, health & safety, and operational oversight (including petty cash, staffing, and housekeeping).
- Managing staff rotas, delegating shift responsibilities, and ensuring robust handovers and consistent managerial presence.
- Line managing, coaching, and mentoring staff through regular supervisions, appraisals, and training plans.
- Developing and reviewing care plans, risk assessments, and positive behaviour support plans tailored to each young person.
- Working with therapy leads, education teams, local authorities, and external professionals through structured multi-disciplinary reviews.
- Leading regulatory compliance, preparing for inspections, completing internal audits, and supporting independent monthly visitor reviews (Regulation 44).
- Acting as a safeguarding lead, ensuring concerns and incidents are recorded, escalated, and managed in line with policy and legislation.
- Overseeing safe medication administration and accurate record-keeping.
Requirements & Qualifications:
To be successful as a Home Manager (Specialist Children’s Residential), you will need:
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- First Aid at Work qualification
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management (highly desirable) or commitment to achieve within 2 years
- Specialist training/qualifications in safeguarding and positive behaviour management
- At least 2 years’ experience managing staff, rotas, and budgets within a residential care setting
- Proven experience supporting young people with complex needs and challenging behaviour
- Strong digital skills using care systems, spreadsheets, and email for records and reporting
