Job Description:
Our client, a leading educational provider in Liverpool, is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to assist children with special educational needs in a Reception class setting. This role offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on young learners’ development within a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Support Worker for Children with Special Educational Needs based in Liverpool, your daily duties will include:

  • Working with individuals or small groups of pupils under the supervision of teaching staff, supporting activities such as reading, crafts, and play.
  • Supporting pupils with therapy or care programmes designed by external professionals.
  • Assisting pupils to understand instructions, promoting independent learning and inclusion.
  • Supporting behaviour management, self-regulation, and engagement strategies.
  • Attending to pupils’ personal needs, including toileting, hygiene, dressing, and eating, and reporting any issues to the teacher.
  • Physically assisting pupils with activities, including lifting where mobility is an issue.
  • Preparing and clearing learning environments and resources, maintaining a safe and stimulating classroom.
  • Supporting pupils during break times, educational visits, and using basic ICT tools.
  • Administering medication in accordance with healthcare plans, updating pupil records, and supporting social, welfare, and health matters.

Requirements & Qualifications:
To be successful as a Support Worker for Children with Special Educational Needs, you will need:

  • A recognised Level 2 qualification relevant to working in a primary classroom.
  • Experience working with primary-aged children, particularly those with special educational needs such as SLD and autism.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and current Enhanced DBS clearance.
  • First Aid qualification (or willingness to train).
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Evidence of professional development and a commitment to ongoing training.
  • Ability to support pupils’ learning and behaviour positively.
