Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join our service in Newport. This frontline role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the local community by supporting individuals transitioning from secure or residential hospital settings into independent living within Newport and the wider Gwent area. 

Key Responsibilities:
As a Mental Health Support Worker based in Newport, your daily duties will include:

• Providing direct person-centred support to service users, assisting with daily living skills such as budgeting, tenancy management, meal planning, and establishing routines.
• Supporting community integration by escorting service users to appointments across Newport and facilitating participation in local activities.
• Contributing to care and treatment planning by attending reviews and helping service users articulate their goals and exercise choice.
• Offering emotional regulation and crisis support using Structured Clinical Management (SCM) principles to help individuals manage distress and de-escalate crises.
• Embedding Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) standards across all support activities.
• Maintaining accurate record-keeping and promptly escalating safeguarding concerns.
• Assisting with outcome measurement and gathering feedback to support continuous service improvement.
• Participating in team handovers, clinical supervision, and reflective practice sessions.

Requirements & Qualifications:
To be successful as a Mental Health Support Worker, you will need:

• Proven frontline support experience supporting individuals with complex mental health needs or challenging behaviours.
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle to travel across Newport and the Gwent region.
• Flexibility to work a 6-week rolling rota covering day shifts, evenings, weekends, and night shifts.
• Strong relational skills with the ability to build trusting, therapeutic relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
• High emotional intelligence, resilience, and excellent communication skills when working with individuals in distress.
• Ability to adapt proactively to changing priorities and work independently or as part of a team.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of local health services, social care routes, and third-sector support networks in Newport and South Wales.
• Familiarity with Trauma-Informed Care, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE).
• Welsh language skills (spoken or written) are an asset.
