Registered Manager – Children's Residential Services

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Manager to take overall responsibility for the management and leadership of a Children’s Home. This role is crucial for promoting and ensuring high standards of care that meet and exceed regulatory requirements.

The Registered Manager will provide strong leadership to ensure young people receive excellent emotional and physical care within a safe, nurturing environment.

  • Reporting to: Regional Operations Manager

  • Contract: Permanent, Full-time

  • Key Focus: Safety, Quality Service, Colleague Engagement, Financial Sustainability, and Colleague Development.


 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the home operates in full compliance with all statutory and legislative requirements, including Children's Homes Regulations and Health and Safety standards. The role holder must have completed the full registration process and been declared Fit by OFSTED.

  • Quality Assurance: Implement robust quality assurance practices to continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of individuals and the team.

  • Financial Management: Manage the designated budget, monitor and control all expenditure, and ensure the service is financially sustainable. This includes safely managing new referrals, authorising purchases, and investigating any financial irregularities.

  • Team Leadership & Management:

    • Recruit high-calibre colleagues and drive a high engagement culture through great leadership, coaching, development, and recognition.

    • Implement robust performance management (supervision and appraisals) and manage people matters (discipline, grievance, absence).

    • Manage the colleague rota to ensure appropriate resource deployment, including provision for emergency/out-of-hours coverage.

  • Care & Well-being:

    • Ensure the care and well-being of young people is maintained at the highest level.

    • Promote the practice of working in partnership with young people, their families, and professional agencies.

    • Ensure all young people receive appropriate medical, dental, and ancillary care.

    • Encourage, stimulate, and participate in social activities to broaden life and stimulate interests.

    • Arrange admissions of young people to the home in line with policy.


 

Knowledge, Education, and Experience Requirements

  • Qualification: A management qualification of at least or equivalent to Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care for Children and Young People, or working towards.

  • Registration: Must have completed the full registration process and been declared fit by OFSTED.

  • Experience: At least 1 year’s experience in a managerial role within a children’s residential setting.

  • Knowledge: A sound working knowledge of the statutory requirements associated with the residential care of young people (e.g., Children’s Homes Regulations, Health and Safety legislation).

  • Skills: Proven people management skills (motivating, directing, delegating), proven organisational skills, and proven financial management skills.


 

Safeguarding and Working Environment

  • Safeguarding: All colleagues have a responsibility to protect and safeguard vulnerable individuals. The Registered Manager must ensure awareness of local child protection procedures and attend safeguarding training, including specialist training appropriate to the role (e.g., Child Protection, Physical Intervention, Behavioural Management).

  • Working Environment: The role is emotionally and physically demanding due to the social and educational challenges experienced by the young people, which may give rise to unusual or anti-social behaviour.

  • Training: The role holder will be expected to undergo certified training and refresher courses in areas including Child Protection, Physical Intervention, and Health & Safety.
