Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Registered Manager to lead a newly established, high-quality residential home in Kingston Upon Thames. The service provides specialised, therapeutic, autism-focused care for up to three young people. Our mission is to create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where children can build independence and achieve meaningful outcomes.

The ideal candidate will lead the home through the registration process, ensure full compliance with regulatory standards, and strive to deliver an Outstanding standard of care.

  • Salary: £75,000 – £80,000 per annum

  • Contract: Permanent, Full-time


Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Leadership & Registration: Provide overall leadership and management of the home. Prepare the service for Ofsted registration and lead all future inspections.

  • Compliance: Ensure full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.

  • Safeguarding: Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring all safeguarding standards are rigorously upheld.

  • Therapeutic Environment: Develop and implement policies, care plans, and behaviour support strategies to promote a therapeutic, autism-specialist culture.

  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, supervise, and support the staff team to deliver exceptional standards of care while managing rotas and staffing levels.

  • Collaborative Working: Work closely with local authorities, healthcare professionals, and families to ensure personalised support.

  • Operational Oversight: Manage budgets, quality assurance processes, and ensure accurate record-keeping and regulatory documentation.


Essential Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a management or supervisory role within residential childcare.

  • Specialist Experience: 3+ years direct experience supporting children with autism, learning disabilities, or emotional/behavioural needs.

  • Qualification: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or commitment to complete within 6–12 months).

  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and Ofsted inspection frameworks.

  • Skills: Strong leadership, professional communication, and high-level organisational skills.

  • Checks: An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position.

Desirable Experience

  • Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or Autism-specialist certifications.

  • Experience in opening or registering a new children’s home.

  • Background in therapeutic or trauma-informed practice.
