The Opportunity: Leading Specialist Care in a Rural Community

A unique opportunity has arisen for a quality-focused Registered Manager to lead a specialist EBD (Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties) service in the peaceful village of Hermitage. This role is ideally suited for a leader who values a rural setting as a therapeutic tool, providing young people with a calm, stable environment away from urban pressures.

As the Registered Manager, you will oversee a service that emphasizes community integration and outdoor-based therapeutic progress. This evergreen opportunity offers the autonomy to manage a "home-from-home" provision while maintaining the high professional standards expected within the West Berkshire care sector.

Why This Role in Hermitage?

  • Therapeutic Setting: Leverage the quiet, woodland surroundings of Hermitage to implement creative, nature-based therapeutic interventions that support emotional regulation.

  • Targeted 2026 Package: A salary range of £56.5k – £71k, which includes a specific rural allowance and bonuses tied to maintaining 'Good' or 'Outstanding' regulatory status.

  • Strategic Access: Despite its rural feel, Hermitage offers excellent connectivity to the A34 and M4, making it highly accessible for managers and staff traveling from Newbury, Reading, or Didcot.

  • Stable Staffing: Manage a service that benefits from a loyal, local staff base and a provider that invests heavily in regional training and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Leadership: Act as the Registered Manager with Ofsted, ensuring the home consistently meets the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.

  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong links with the local Hermitage and West Berkshire community to support the social inclusion of young people.

  • Staff Mentorship: Drive a culture of resilience and trauma-informed care, providing the leadership needed to develop a high-performing multidisciplinary team.

  • Service Development: Oversee the daily operations and long-term strategic growth of the home, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all residents.

Candidate Requirements

  • Education: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.

  • Experience: Proven managerial or supervisory experience within an EBD children’s home setting.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: A solid understanding of the Quality Standards and a successful track record of navigating Ofsted inspections.

  • Approach: A grounded, empathetic leader who thrives in a smaller, village-based service and is passionate about child-centered care.
