Job Description
Registered Manager (Children’s Residential Care) required for a 4-bed Ofsted-registered children’s home in Reading, Berkshire, supporting young people with EBD through a therapeutic approach informed by PACE and DDP. This is a registered role under the Care Standards Act 2000, with responsibility for outstanding care, safeguarding, compliance, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
As a Registered Manager (Children’s Residential Care) based in Reading, your daily duties will include:
- Maintaining Ofsted registration and ensuring the home meets/exceeds Children’s Homes Regulations (2015) and Quality Standards.
- Providing line management to the Deputy Manager and leadership to Senior and Support Workers, including induction and ongoing development.
- Leading quality assurance, audits, and service improvement plans, using performance data and inspection outcomes to drive continuous improvement.
- Owning the safeguarding strategy, ensuring robust systems, timely responses, and confident engagement with multi-agency partners.
- Managing operational delivery including staffing, training, and budget oversight, ensuring effective deployment and safe practice.
- Leading investigations and chairing disciplinary, safeguarding, and professional meetings, following HR processes as required.
- Ensuring accurate record keeping, handling complaints/compliments, and providing monthly performance updates to the Responsible Individual.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Registered Manager (Children’s Residential Care), you will need:
- Diploma Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (essential).
- Proven experience as an Ofsted Registered Manager with strong outcomes and regulatory history.
- Strong working knowledge of SCCIF, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and the Children’s Homes Regulations (2015).
- Enhanced DBS (Adult/Child) (mandatory) and commitment to ongoing professional and ethical standards.
- Flexibility to meet service needs, including on-call responsibilities.
