Job Description

Residential Support Worker opportunities are available in Bodmin, Cornwall within a children’s residential setting supporting young people to feel safe, heard, and empowered. You’ll be part of a dedicated team focused on delivering consistent, child-centred care and helping each young person achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

As a Residential Support Worker based in Bodmin, your daily duties will include:

  • Supporting children’s physical, emotional, educational, recreational, and social needs in a safe and nurturing home environment in Bodmin.
  • Following each child’s Placement Plan, promoting attendance in education, and helping plan weekly routines with the voice of the child at the centre.
  • Completing accurate daily records and key admin tasks (e.g., daily journals, handovers, medication records, incident/accident reporting).
  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, confidentiality, and professionalism, adhering to policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Using agreed communication strategies and positive behaviour support (PBS) approaches, including de-escalation and safe intervention where required.
  • Supporting a clean, safe environment, including awareness of fire safety and participation in drills.
  • Working flexibly, including sleep-ins and lone working when required, and supporting transport needs as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

To be successful as a Residential Support Worker, you will need:

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Experience supporting children or young people in a residential, care, or similar setting (desirable, but not essential if you have the right values and approach).
  • Willingness to complete all required training and follow policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Ability to work a rota, including sleep-in duties and flexibility to meet service needs.
  • Ability to complete required pre-employment checks (e.g., Enhanced DBS and relevant referencing) (exact checks depend on role requirements).
