Job Description:
We are recruiting a Residential Support Worker to join a children’s residential setting in Crediton, Devon. This role supports children to feel safe, heard, and empowered, while helping them achieve positive outcomes through consistent, child-centred care.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Residential Support Worker, your daily duties will include:
- Supporting children’s weekly routines and activities, ensuring they are safe, engaged, and listened to, using appropriate communication strategies.
- Following each child’s Placement Plan and promoting education, including encouraging attendance and learning.
- Maintaining accurate daily records and completing key admin tasks such as daily journals, handovers, medication records, and telephone enquiries.
- Upholding policies, procedures, and risk assessments, responding appropriately to emergencies and maintaining confidentiality.
- Creating a safe, warm, and supportive environment that meets children’s physical, emotional, psychological, educational, recreational, and social needs.
- Promoting positive relationships with family and friends, encouraging life skills, and supporting children with transport and outdoor activities when required.
- Using de-escalation and following PBS plans; physically intervening only when behaviour becomes dangerous and completing incident/accident documentation within agreed timescales.
- Supporting a professional team culture, including rota compliance, cleanliness standards, fire safety awareness, and attending meetings/training.
Requirements & Qualifications:
To be successful as a Residential Support Worker, you will need:
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Experience supporting children or young people in a residential or care setting (preferred).
- Willingness to work flexibly, including sleep-in duties and occasional lone working.
- Ability to follow care plans, policies, and risk assessments, and complete accurate written records.
