Job Description
The Residential Support Worker role is an opportunity to support children and young people in a safe, nurturing residential setting in Exeter. You’ll help maximise each child’s potential by promoting choice, independence, and positive outcomes through consistent, child-centred care.
Working as part of a supportive team, you will follow individual placement plans and communication strategies to ensure every child has a voice and feels heard.
Key Responsibilities
As a Residential Support Worker, your daily duties will include:
- Supporting children’s daily routines and weekly plans, ensuring they are safe, engaged, and listened to.
- Following each child’s Placement Plan, promoting education and supporting attendance and learning.
- Maintaining accurate records and completing key admin tasks such as daily journals, handovers, medication documentation, and telephone enquiries.
- Promoting a safe, warm, and supportive environment that meets physical, emotional, psychological, educational, recreational, and social needs.
- Responding appropriately to incidents and emergencies, using de-escalation and following individual behaviour/PBS plans where required.
- Upholding policies, procedures, risk assessments, confidentiality, and safeguarding standards at all times.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Residential Support Worker, you will need:
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Experience supporting children in a residential, care, or similarly structured setting (desirable).
- Confidence working within policies, procedures, and risk assessments, including incident reporting.
- Flexibility to work rota patterns, including sleep-in duties and occasional lone working.
