Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent (40 hours per week + sleep-in duties, available as overtime)
Job Description
Residential Support Worker opportunities are available within a therapeutic children’s home setting in Reading, United Kingdom. You’ll provide consistent care, guidance, and practical support to help young people build life skills, engage with education, and develop emotionally within a structured, nurturing environment.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can balance empathy with clear boundaries and professional accountability.
Key Responsibilities
As a Residential Support Worker based in Reading, your daily duties will include:
- Supporting young people with personal hygiene, healthy routines, nutrition, and presentation
- Administering medication in line with policy and accompanying young people to medical appointments
- Following individual Emotional and Behavioural Response Plans to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour
- Encouraging participation in meaningful activities inside and outside the home, including trips and holidays
- Maintaining a safe, secure, clean environment, completing domestic tasks and health & safety checks
- Producing accurate, objective records and supporting compliance with Quality Standards and Ofsted regulations
- Acting as a Key Worker, contributing to planning and review meetings
- Working flexibly on a rota, including weekends, bank holidays, and required sleep-ins
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Residential Support Worker, you will need:
- Commitment to achieve Diploma Level 4 Children and Young People Family Practitioner
- Understanding of child development and safeguarding policies and procedures
- A clean UK Driving Licence
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and basic IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- The resilience, patience, and professionalism to work under pressure in a residential setting
Desirable: Diploma Level 3 Residential Child Care, experience in children’s residential care, knowledge of Children’s Home Regulations (2015), and understanding of therapeutic approaches.
