Location: Cheddar, Somerset, South West (BS27 area)

Salary: £27,976 – £28,650 per annum (plus £46.01 per sleep-in and up to £1,400 attendance bonus per year)

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent (40 hours per week)

Job Description

A Children’s Residential Support Worker role is available in Cheddar, Somerset, supporting children and young people aged 5–12 within a nurturing residential setting. This is an opportunity to help create stability, build confidence, and promote positive outcomes through consistent, child-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

As a Children’s Residential Support Worker based in Cheddar, your daily duties will include:

• Safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people in residential care
• Providing practical and emotional support, including daily routines such as cooking, cleaning, and encouraging independence
• Supporting children to develop life skills (e.g., budgeting, shopping) and engage in hobbies and community activities
• Maintaining a safe environment in line with Ofsted standards, including accurate reporting and recording of incidents
• Building positive, professional relationships and acting as a consistent role model with clear boundaries
• Transporting young people to school, appointments, and activities in and around Cheddar, Somerset
• Completing records and liaising with managers, social workers, and other professionals
• Working flexibly across shifts including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins (1–2 per week)

Requirements & Qualifications

To be successful as a Children’s Residential Support Worker, you will need:

• A willingness to work towards QCF Level 3 in Residential Childcare (fully funded)
• Experience supporting children/young people in a care, residential, or similarly challenging setting (desirable)
• A full UK driving licence (essential due to location)
• The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
• Successful completion of safer recruitment checks in line with Ofsted requirements
• Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
