Salary: £31,000 - £36,200 per annum (+ £50 per sleep-in)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent (40 hours per week, rota including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins)
Job Description
Senior Residential Support Worker opportunities are available in Reading, Berkshire within a children’s residential care setting supporting young people aged 8–18. You’ll help create a safe, consistent home environment while leading by example and supporting colleagues to deliver high-quality, trauma-informed care.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Residential Support Worker based in Reading, your daily duties will include:
- Building trusted, consistent relationships with children and young people, supporting their views, wishes and feelings.
- Creating a warm, nurturing home environment and supporting routines, education, hobbies and community activities in Reading, Berkshire.
- Safeguarding children by following care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans, using de-escalation and therapeutic approaches.
- Coaching and guiding Residential Support Workers, helping maintain consistent standards and supporting on-call duties when required.
- Working with external professionals (schools, social workers, health professionals and families) and maintaining accurate, compliant records.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will need:
- Experience working with children or young people in a residential setting (essential).
- Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to achieve within required timescales).
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding and professional boundaries, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable: experience with therapeutic parenting (including PACE), knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations/Quality Standards, and experience mentoring or supervising colleagues.
