Key Responsibilities:
- Act as shift leader, ensuring the smooth running of daily operations in the [City] support home.
- Lead and organise staff shifts, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard.
- Provide a safe, caring environment that promotes the development and well-being of children and young people.
- Maintain accurate logs of incidents, accidents, and interventions, and challenge inappropriate practice.
- Liaise with external professionals, including social workers and healthcare providers, to support the children’s needs.
- Promote safeguarding and ensure the welfare of children is prioritised at all times.
- Support children in developing social, emotional, and educational skills through positive engagement.
- Oversee the organisation of activities, outings, and holidays, ensuring they are safe and enjoyable.
- Assist with domestic duties such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a tidy environment.
- Support children with their care plans, educational goals, and discharge planning.
- Provide supervision and support to less experienced staff, contributing to their induction and development.
- Undertake sleep-in duties as part of the rota, ensuring the safety and security of the home overnight.
- Complete administrative tasks, including reports, care plans, and maintaining child records.
- Manage petty cash and assist with financial procedures within the home.
- Follow health and safety policies, ensuring safe working practices at all times.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development activities.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a children’s support or care environment, ideally in a senior or leadership role.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and care planning.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in duties.
- Relevant qualifications in health and social care (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) are desirable.
- Commitment to providing high-quality care and promoting positive outcomes for children and young people.
