Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Senior Support Worker to join a leading childcare organisation based in Merton, London. This role involves leading shifts, organising daily activities, and ensuring the highest standards of care for children and young people in a safe, nurturing environment. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the development and well-being of children, working closely with the team to promote positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Support Worker in Merton, your daily duties will include:
- Acting as the shift leader, ensuring that all tasks within the home are completed to a high standard and that children’s needs are prioritised.
- Planning and organising shifts, coordinating staff responsibilities, and managing resources effectively.
- Providing a safe, caring environment that promotes respect, dignity, and independence for children and young people.
- Maintaining accurate logs of incidents, accidents, and interventions, and challenging any suspected inappropriate practice.
- Acting as the lead point of contact with external professionals and reporting directly to the Deputy and Home Manager.
- Safeguarding children’s welfare, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times, including using communication devices responsibly.
- Supporting children’s social, emotional, and educational development through positive engagement and behaviour management.
- Assisting with daily domestic duties such as meal preparation, laundry, cleaning, and maintaining a tidy environment.
- Participating in staff meetings, training, and supervision sessions to ensure continuous professional development.
- Undertaking sleep-in duties as part of the rota, ensuring the safety and security of the home overnight.
- Managing petty cash and administrative tasks in accordance with organisational policies.
Requirements & Qualifications:
To be successful as a Senior Support Worker, you will need:
- NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience working in a similar childcare or residential setting.
- Mandatory compliance with an Enhanced DBS Check and Full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong communication skills, resilience, and a compassionate approach to supporting children and young people.
