Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Residential Support Worker to join a children’s home team that provides professional care, guidance, and support to young people. The Residential Support Worker will play a vital role in delivering a therapeutic, scaffolding care approach aimed at fostering life skills, education, and emotional development. The Residential Support Worker role in this children’s home in the United Kingdom offers a full-time, permanent position with 40 hours per week plus sleep-in duties, which may be available as overtime.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily support to young people, encouraging high standards of personal hygiene, nutrition, and appearance.
- Administer medication following policies and accompany young people to medical appointments.
- Support behaviour management by following the ‘Emotional and Behavioural Response Plan’ to help young people manage challenging behaviours.
- Promote engagement in leisure and meaningful activities, including trips and holidays, tailored to individual interests.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-presented environment, conducting domestic chores and health and safety checks.
- Accurately record all activities, incidents, and observations, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory standards, including Ofsted regulations.
- Act as a Key Worker for individual children, contributing to review and planning meetings.
- Participate in shift work on a rota basis, demonstrating flexibility and team commitment.
- Uphold safeguarding policies, respond promptly to safeguarding concerns, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Requirements:
- Qualifications: Commitment to achieving Diploma Level 4 in Children and Young People Family Practitioner.
- Knowledge: Understanding of child development, safeguarding policies, and children’s physical and emotional needs.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Clean driving licence.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Patience, resilience, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Flexibility and commitment to the role.
- Desirable:
- Diploma Level 3 Residential Child Care or Level 4 Children and Young People Family Practitioner.
- Experience working in a residential setting with children and young people.
- Knowledge of Children’s Home Regulations (2015).
- Creative, outcome-focused approach and ability to prioritise workload.
