Job Title: Primary Teaching Assistant – ALN & SEBD Specialist | Foundation Phase Support in Penarth

Location: Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, UK

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Job Description:
Are you a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), especially those experiencing Social, Emotional, and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD)? Our client, a leading specialist provider of primary education, is seeking a full-time Primary Teaching Assistant to join a nurturing foundation phase setting in Penarth. This vital role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young learners requiring extra support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide focused, one-to-one, and small group support to help pupils manage emotions, develop coping strategies, and self-regulate behaviour to access the curriculum successfully.
  • Collaborate closely with the Class Teacher and the school's ALN Coordinator (ALNCo) to implement and adapt Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Create a stable, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment that encourages positive behaviour, emotional well-being, and academic progress for pupils who need additional support.
  • Support the development of learners’ social skills and emotional resilience through tailored interventions.
  • Monitor and record pupils’ progress, providing feedback to the teaching team to adapt approaches as needed.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally supporting pupils within ALN and SEBD settings.
  • Strong understanding of Special Educational Needs and Behaviour Management strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach to student wellbeing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other school staff.
  • Relevant qualifications or training related to SEN or behaviour support (desirable).

This is an excellent chance for an experienced TA to join a supportive and dynamic school environment within the Penarth community, helping young learners thrive academically and personally.
