Salary: £15.50 per hour (DOE)

Job Description:
Are you looking for a rewarding Waking Night Support Worker role where you can make a real difference to vulnerable children and young people? As a Waking Night Support Worker in our children’s residential service in Clacton-on-Sea, you will provide a safe, secure, and reassuring environment throughout the night. This Waking Night Support Worker position is nights only, working a structured 12-hour shift pattern from 19:30 to 07:30.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe, warm, and secure home environment as a Waking Night Support Worker in Clacton-on-Sea, completing regular non-intrusive safety checks
  • Support young people with evening and morning routines, helping them wind down and prepare for the school day
  • Provide calm, empathetic reassurance to young people who may experience wakefulness, distress, or anxiety during the night
  • Demonstrate vigilance in safeguarding, identifying risks and reporting concerns to management immediately
  • Complete accurate night-time logging and documentation using the home’s digital care management system
  • Support seamless continuity of care by participating in robust morning and evening handovers
  • Carry out light administrative or housekeeping tasks during quiet hours to keep the home clean, tidy, and organised

Requirements:

  • Experience in a children’s residential or care setting is desirable, but full training will be provided
  • Strong emotional resilience, patience, and a genuine desire to support vulnerable children
  • Excellent communication skills and basic IT literacy for report writing
  • Ability to commit to a permanent schedule of 12-hour waking night shifts as a Waking Night Support Worker in Clacton-on-Sea
  • Successful completion of an Enhanced DBS check (required for safer recruitment)
  • Composure, empathy, and reliability—able to remain calm and observant during night working
