Job Description
A Waking Night Support Worker (Children’s Residential) is required to join a children’s home in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. Working nights only, you’ll help create a calm, safe, and reassuring environment for vulnerable children and young people. This is a permanent role within a supportive residential team, with full training provided.
Key Responsibilities
As a Waking Night Support Worker (Children’s Residential) based in Clacton-on-Sea, your daily duties will include:
- Maintaining a safe, warm, and secure environment, completing regular (non-intrusive) night-time checks
- Supporting evening wind-down routines and morning routines to prepare young people for the school day
- Providing calm, empathetic reassurance to young people experiencing distress, anxiety, or wakefulness overnight
- Recording accurate night logs, incidents, and observations using a digital care management system
- Delivering clear handovers to ensure continuity between day and night teams
- Completing light housekeeping/administrative tasks during quieter periods to keep the home organised
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful as a Waking Night Support Worker (Children’s Residential), you will need:
- Enhanced DBS check (mandatory, in line with safer recruitment)
- Experience in children’s residential care or a similar setting (desirable, not essential—training provided)
- Strong communication skills and basic IT literacy for report writing
- Emotional resilience, patience, empathy, and reliability
- Ability to commit to waking nights only: 19:30–07:30 (12-hour shifts)
