Job Title: Young Persons Support Worker (Children’s Support Worker)
Location: Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, United Kingdom
Salary: £14.24 - £28.48 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)

Job Description:

As a Young Persons Support Worker in Barry, you’ll support children and young people who may be experiencing homelessness, substance misuse, mental health challenges, and trauma. This Young Persons Support Worker role in Barry offers meaningful work, strong support, and excellent pay—ideal for compassionate individuals ready to help young people build independence and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support children and young people with day-to-day activities and interests as a Young Persons Support Worker in Barry
  • Promote independence, emotional wellbeing, and positive outcomes for young people
  • Attend weekends away, holidays, and trips away with the children (as required)
  • Support weekend and evening activities, ranging from everyday interests to outings
  • Protect young people from risks to health and welfare, maintaining safe practice
  • Provide emotional and practical support within the home environment
  • Keep up to date with care plans and guidelines to ensure safety as a Young Persons Support Worker in Barry
  • Support, de-escalate, and minimise incidents when behaviour is challenging

Requirements:

  • A desire to create positive outcomes for vulnerable children and young people
  • Empathetic, caring, and resilient nature
  • At least 6 months’ experience working with children or in a similar social care setting
  • Restraint training: restraint trained, or willing to undergo the 3-day course
  • Valid UK driving licence (required)
  • Hold a current Enhanced DBS on the update service, or be willing to obtain one
  • Right to work in the UK

Working Hours (as a Young Persons Support Worker in Barry):

  • 16:30 – Sleep 09:30, or waking nights 11:00pm – 8:00am, or 8:00am – 5:00pm
