Job Description:
Are you a compassionate Support Worker ready to make a real, measurable difference? This Support Worker role in Merthyr Tydfil offers 12 weeks temporary work, with the opportunity to move into a permanent position after 12 weeks. The service provides more than accommodation—supporting young people to build a safe, inclusive home, develop independence, and engage in employment or education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day emotional and practical support as a Support Worker in Merthyr Tydfil
  • Motivate and empower young people to gain independence
  • Deliver support and advice in line with support plans and keyworker requests
  • Build trusting relationships and encourage positive engagement
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to support outcomes for young people
  • Respond calmly and effectively during challenging moments as required for the Support Worker role in Merthyr Tydfil

Requirements:

  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage young people
  • Understanding of trauma, including impacts of homelessness and domestic abuse
  • Forward-thinking crisis response approach
  • Emotional resilience—remain calm and collected in challenging and traumatic situations
  • Empathetic, caring and resilient nature
  • At least 6 months’ experience working with children or in a similar social care setting
  • TMVA (Restraint Training) certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Valid UK driving licence
  • Current Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Right to work in the UK
